Waitrose
At this years Welsh Winter Fair (2009) Miss Elin Jones our Welsh minister for Agriculture came to the Waitrose stand to launch our new Agriscob group.
The Wye & Towy Valley Welsh Black Beef Marketing Group.
After being approched by Waitrose to supply them with Welsh black Beef a meeting was held and a group of Six farmers (including ourselves) formed a dedicated group to sell beef to Waitrose.
A load of steers were sent to Llanidloes Slaughterhouse and Waitrose were very pleased with their quality and weights, so a deal was made-
24 cattle will be slaughtered every fortnight and then hung for 4 weeks to mature before they are sold at the 5 Waitrose stores in Wales.
These cattle must be pure Welsh Black Cattle from WB Dams and WB registered Sires
These cattle must be born in Wales
These cattle must be reared in Wales
These cattle must be fattened in Wales
These cattle must be slaughtered in Wales
Avoiding travelling long distances and reducing our carbon footprint.
These black cattle which have grazed the hills and mountains and fattened in the valleys of Wales for centuries, are always sought after by the best Chefs for the tender, quality beef.
Now with this deal with Waitrose it will be easier for the consumer to sample the best beef in the country.
We as a group are very proud to sell our Welsh Black Beef direct to Waitrose, where quality is guaranteed.
